Welcome to Special Sweets – Delicious Homemade Cupcakes Made by a diverse group of seven awesome individuals with Autism and other intellectual disabilities, working alongside our two ABA/Life skills instructors.
We have been together for over 13 years in school and have truly become a family. With us now aging out of the public-school system at the age of 21, we wanted to keep our little family together.
Unfortunately, the unemployment rate for individuals with intellectual and/or physical disabilities (like ours) is over 80%. This is a number we would love to see change. We truly believe that all individuals have a purpose in life, regardless of their disabilities. Everyone has the right and the desire to be a productive member in their community.
In school, we all found a love for baking during our Life skills classes, where we became quite good at making all sorts of delicious and creative treats. We enjoyed it so much, that we decided to use our baking skills – and a lot of team effort – to create a business so that others may enjoy our baking as well. We hope that you will support us along this journey of growth, creativity and independence.
A portion of our profits are being used to reach our goal of opening a cupcake café and be able to serve our customers in person. Operating
under our nonprofit “A Special Place For Me “, our mission is to enrich
and empower individuals with intellectual and developmental
disabilities to reach their highest potential through viable work and
social opportunities.
We look forward to serving you! Sincerely,
The Cupcake Crew: Christina, Michael, Mike, Patricia, Ryan, Sean, Zalydia, Mrs. C, and Miss Patty.
